5 Year Anniversary!

Troy and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary last weekend. I planned everything and surprised Troy with a trip to Logan as soon he got off work on Friday. We dropped off Kailey at my Mom's house (Thanks mom!). We were supposed to go canoeing (spelling?) but it was pretty cold and windy (just my luck). We decided to go mini golfing and go-carting at the Celebration Center. Then we went to dinner at Hamilton's (which is a nice Steak and seafood place). I got Steak and Troy got Prime Rib (they were both amazing).
We spent our first night as a married couple at the Anniversary Inn in Logan so I thought it would only be fitting that we went back there for our anniversary. We could have gotten the same room as before (which was called "The Presidential" it was just really nice furniture), or we could try something new. We ended up getting the "Lost in Space" room. It was awesome! There were black lights and glow in the dark wall paintings. I tried to get a picture of it but it didn't really work.

Here is a better shot with the lights on.

The best part was the bathroom. It is the metal thing next to me in this picture.

You swing open the doors, and find the Toilet and a huge panel of buttons and monitors.
There are also a red lights that flash up to the ceiling. It makes you feel like you are about to blast off into space. LOL! It was really cool.
It was so nice to get away and do something different. I have to say thanks to my friend Kami Wood who encouraged me to do something really fun for our anniversary. I would have just got a babysitter and gone to dinner and a movie. It was well worth the effort. Thanks Kami!

Happy Anniversary sweet heart. I hope you liked your surprise trip.

By the way...You are incharge next year ;)

I looked out the window and what did I see?

It is officially spring! I have been waiting all year for my trees to blossom. Unfortunately, they don't smell good like I had hoped. Oh well, they sure look pretty though! Kailey and I sing POPCORN popping on the apricot tree everyday now. Isn't that why they wrote that song...because the blossoms can look like popcorn?

Temper Tantrums already?

When Kailey doesn't get her way, or when I take something away from her that she shouldn't have, she throws a fit. She will collapse on the spot throw her head back (so she is laying on her back) and cry. I just ignore her and she gets up quickly. Today however I thought I would document the behavior. She had stopped crying by the time I took this picture... and thought it was funny that mom was taking a picture of her in this one.
You little stinker Kailey. It is a good thing I can't stay mad at you very long.

Kailey's eating habits

Kailey's favorite food is bananas! She would eat them all day if I would let her.
She often takes too big of bites, and will spit them out and try again.
She loves to hold on to this part and stick her finger down in the hole.
Unfortunately, one of her least favorite foods lately has been bread (wheat bread actually).
She will take a bite... spit it out...
and proceed to tear it into tiny pieces...
which are then thrown on the floor.

Only in Utah!

Yesterday I went for a walk at 10:30 am in shorts and a t-shirt, drove with my windows down all day, and enjoyed all of that wonderful sunshine!
Today, however, is a completely different story! Kailey and I have stayed inside all day. Grrrrr.....It was cloudy, glumy, and FREEZING COLD! Not to mention it SNOWED! Ok I know this picture is really from January but you never know what the weather will bring here in Utah. Only in Utah can you have your AC on in your car full blast one day, and scrape ice off your car windows the next! I just want nice weather. Is that too much to ask? It did snow the morning of our wedding 5 years ago (April 26th). We did end up having our outdoor reception though (luckily the snow melted, but it was still a little cold).

All about Troy

Troy turned 29 last Friday so in light of his birthday I thought I would fill out this "husband tag" from Sarah Talbot's blog.
Husband Tag
What is his name? Troy David Parkin

How long have we been married? Almost 5 years. April 26th 2003.

How long did we date? We dated for 4 months, and then were engaged for 4 months.

How old is he? 29!

Who eats more? He does and a lot faster than me too!

Who said I love you first? He did. We were outside my apartment at BYU Idaho. He said it and I said “Thanks”. A few minutes past as I searched my heart and was able to sincerely tell him “I love you too!”

Who is taller? He is way taller. 6’ 1” and I am only 5’4”.

Who sings better? I do, only because I have had more practice. He is definitely a shower singer though. It usually sounds pretty good as long as he can remember the words (if not he just makes some up).

Who is smarter? He is! I also think that it depends on the subject. He is so smart about “LIFE” stuff like money, planning for the future, cars, politics, World War II facts, etc. I can pull straight A’s if I want to but I don’t have the drive for perfection that he ALWAYS has.

Whose temper is worse? Me all the way. It takes a lot to ruffle his feathers, but when you do…watch out!

Who pays the bills? He pays all of them except for Health Insurance. It isn’t that I don’t want to do them it’s just that…Ok maybe it IS because I don’t want to do them ;) I get bored easily. If you hand me a stack of bills and tell me to pay them I will gladly get it done, but if I have to chart and graph exactly where the money is coming and going…I hate that. Mainly because it only goes to Wal-mart and the gas station (I guess I think it is pointless). Now if we were BIG spenders and we needed to rein it in a little…I can see why it would be important to track what we are spending. If any of you know Troy you know that he has a hard time spending ANY money so clearly there is no need for all of the mess, right? Of course my attitude towards this subject infuriates Troy.

Who does the laundry? I do! Not that it gets done very often…but when it does get done it is because of me.

Who cooks dinner? I do, unless I am feeling nauseas. He can be very helpful sometimes

Who drives when together? He does. He likes it and I don’t mind.

Who is more stubborn? LOL! I think Troy would say that I am, but the truth is we both are!

Who is the first to admit when wrong? Troy. Which is fine with me because he usually is the one who is wrong (just kidding, that remark comes from the previous question) Troy really is the first one to say he is sorry and try to make up. I need to work on that.

Who's parents do you see more often? We try to be fair, but mine live in Logan and his live in Centerville. So for all intents and purposes I think the scales are slightly tipped in his parents favor (and because my mother in law is nice enough to baby sit Kailey quite often).

Who has more friends? I would say I do, but maybe that is because I get together with my friends more often so it seems like I do.

Who wears the pants in the family? He does (at least that is what he thinks ;) Just kidding. He does.

Who eats more sweets? Blast! I thought this was supposed to be about him. I totally eat more sweets than him…although he did eat an entire pecan pie all by him self yesterday! He kind of Binges sometimes (for example I still have Easter candy left and his was gone a few days after Easter).

Guilty pleasures? Troy is such a hard worker that I don’t think he has many guilty pleasures. He enjoys mountain biking, and watching the Discovery Channel, or any documentaries on World War II.

Who mows the lawn? We both do. Sometimes I beg him to let me mow while he watches Kailey.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I guess that would depend on how you are looking at the bed. I sleep on the side closest to the door (which would be on the right side if you were looking at the bed, but the left side if you were laying on the bed.) so I can get up with Kailey.

Who kissed who first? He kissed me. We were in an empty movie theatre waiting for “Charly” to start. I leaned forward to take of my coat and as I was leaning back he grabbed my shoulders and spun me around to face him. It was so adorable! We watched the movie and BOTH cried at the end. As we were walking out afterward I thought to myself “Wow! I think I could marry him.” I found out years later that he was going to kiss me in the parking lot BEFORE the movie but I still had a tooth pick in my mouth from dinner. Dang it!

Who asked who out first? He asked me to go Spelunking (spelling?) Cave exploring. It was a blast!

Who proposed? He did. He stomped it out in 4 feet of snow on the beach in McCall Idaho.

What is my favorite thing about him? I love when he laughs so hard that no sound comes out and his whole body shakes! Most of the things I love about him also drive me crazy at times! He is the world’s hardest worker! He is a morning person! He can be quite the perfectionist! He is very assertive and capable! He loves to do things on his own (like wanting to finish our basement by himself)! Most of all I love that he has been so patient with me while I have grown up (I was a naive and immature 18 year old when we got married 5 years ago). I think I definitely married up in many ways! I love you sweet heart. You are such a great husband and father!

My Real bedroom.

Because of the previous post (breakfast in bed) I thought I would show you my actual bedroom.
Troy went on his mission to Hawaii so we used that as our theme. Some day I would love to have a KING size bed but for now Troy and I will just continue to fight over who is on who's side of the bed.

One of these days when I get around to it I will put some pictures of us on the wall above the bed with some cute saying like...well I can't think of anything amazing at the moment...so if you have any ideas I would love some.

So a few Saturdays ago I was awakened by dishes banging and a mixer going in the kitchen at 7:00AM (did I mention this was a SATURDAY!) I was annoyed and worried that Troy might wake up Kailey...so I marched out and asked him to be quite. I then went back to sleep. An hour later Troy came in and gave me this...
Well not actually this (I was in my garments and obviously still in bed other wise I would have taken a picture). Troy had made me breakfast in bed! I was so surprised and embarrassed that I had gone out in my half asleep crabbiness and yelled at him for making a lot of noise...when in reality he was making me breakfast. Sorry Honey! That really was one of the most thoughtful and sweet things you have ever done. I am sorry for being such a crank. It was really yummy!

You are such a great husband, friend and an amazing Father! I love you!
